June 2010 – Ben’s dad, Bill Evans in Grand Canyon National Park
a post from Ben…
I don’t know exactly how many nights I have spent outdoors, in the mountains, or in a tent over the years, but I imagine it has been somewhere around seven or eight hundred nights. I love camping. Some of the best memories I have are of being outdoors with family, friends, and on solo trips. It’s the kind of love you want to pass onto your kids… a love legacy…
It’s a legacy that was passed on to me from my dad. He had a deep love for the mountains and nature and would seek out any opportunity to get into them. I grew up in the concrete jungle of Hong Kong, and even there he always managed to find slivers of nature that existed between urban centers where we’d hike and camp every chance we got. When we were in the US, he would find time to take us hiking and camping as often as possible. Thanks to my dad, I learned to love the sounds, the textures, the views, the process, and the smells of being on trails and in tents.
